About the dog and artist
My dog Memoria was inspired by Dia Los Muertos,a celebration of memories of loved ones. La Memoria pays tribute to a beloved pet, celebrating the spirit of them living on as an alebrije, a "spirit animal.”
Priscilla Martinez is a 39-year-old Latina artist and illustrator from Watsonville, California. My passion for art began at a young age, leading me to paint murals as a senior at Watsonville High. After graduation, I pursued art classes at Cabrillo College while working full time to support myself and my family. Over the years, I have established myself as a professional artist, producing a recognized body of work in Watsonville.
I have created a vast amount of curated art for the community, including the official Watsonville Strawberry Festival Poster for seven consecutive years and numerous posters and murals for local merchants, service organizations, schools, and public agencies. In 2018, my design was selected for Monterey County’s first Official Government Flag. My murals can be seen at Watsonville High, Alianza, Ramsay Park, Santa Cruz Naturals in Pajaro, and the Watsonville City Center as part of the Pajaro Valley Arts Movable Murals Project. I also created art for two utility boxes on Main Street in Watsonville. My work, inspired by my culture, community, music, and the beauty of the Pajaro Valley, often uses bright, bold colors and illustrations in the style of Mexican traditions to create captivating pieces that tell a story. While primarily self-taught as a painter and muralist, I have also acquired skills in computer graphic design and body art tattoo design.
